The confirmation that these guidelines will be issued by the end of August was provided to the news agency IAR by Wojciech Konieczny, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Health.
The guidelines are intended to standardize and ensure lawful treatment of women seeking to exercise their right to terminate a pregnancy.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk noted that there will not be a majority in the current parliament for full legalization of abortion, but he announced changes in hospital and prosecutorial practices.
In 2023, 423 abortions were performed in hospitals, and Poland's restrictive abortion laws have been criticized by the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).
Since the 2020 Constitutional Tribunal ruling, abortion in Poland is only legal in two cases: when the pregnancy endangers the woman's life or health, or when it results from a criminal act.
