Iga Świątek’s past, as a five-time Grand Slam champion, has long captivated her fans in Poland and around the world. The tennis player often appears alongside her father, while she has mainly communicated with her mother through email.
Her parents divorced when she was a teenager, and her mother vanished from the lives of both daughters, leaving them in their father's care.
However, it turns out that Iga owes the finances for her early tennis training to her mother, as reported by the magazine “Polityka.” Iga's father, who had a background in sports, supported the family by servicing photocopiers while her mother ran a dental clinic.
“When Iga was a teenager, her parents divorced, and her mother, Dorota, suddenly disappeared from their lives. The arrangement was straightforward: the father took care of Agata, while the mother traveled with Iga everywhere. The seriousness of their daughters' training required substantial financial support, which primarily fell on the mother, who ran a dental clinic near Warsaw. Meanwhile, the father serviced photocopiers, which didn’t pay well. After the divorce, both daughters stayed with Tomasz. Dorota didn’t change her residence or job, and her contact with Iga ended,” revealed Marcin Piątek in Polityka.
Iga Świątek announced that she will be skipping the WTA 1000 tournament on hard courts in Beijing. "I know that fans will experience great tennis there, and I'm sorry that I won't be a part of it this time," the Polish player stated. Additionally, the world’s top-ranked tennis player will also not compete in the tournament in Tokyo.
