The scientist's car was discovered in a forest near Częstochowa, southern Poland, about 12 miles from his home, with his body inside.

On Monday, December 9th, the police confirmed that the body belonged to the missing professor, and they have ruled out foul play, though an autopsy will determine the cause of death.

Dr. Mirosław Kurkowski received his doctorate in 2003 and his habilitation in 2014. He was affiliated with several universities and worked at the Police Academy in Szczytno from 2018, where he taught subjects such as computer science, logic, and cryptography. He also served as the deputy dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at UKSW.

On Sunday, the university’s rector, Fr. Ryszard Czekalski, confirmed Kurkowski's death.
