Roughly two in three Poles say they celebrate Valentine’s Day with their other half and many are expected to spend big to mark the occasion.

This includes spending money on buying a Valentine's Day present, looking the part and spending nice time together, Personnel Service said in a new report.

With its trademark romantic dates, presents and special attractions, Valentine’s Day means a spike in shopping purchases, but also more customers visiting restaurants, cinemas and spas, says Personnel Service’s founder Krzysztof Inglot.

"As some people celebrate, others are in for a bigger payday," he adds.

"Employers in the service industries, particularly catering, beauty and logistics, often hire additional workers to meet increased demand," Inglot said in the latest report.

He added that wages during this period may be higher as "companies want to provide adequate service and motivate employees to work during intense peak hours."

Florists, couriers, waiters

Florists and delivery workers, for instance, are expected to cash in as lovers like to send each other flowers on Valentine’s Day.

Also in demand are waiters and kitchen workers as many couples plan to go out for a romantic dinner, according to Personnel Service.

Best-paid jobs: massage therapist, hairdresser, makeup artist

Meanwhile, massage therapists, hairdressers and makeup artists are the highest-paying Valentine’s Day jobs in Poland, the study found.

Hairdressers and makeup artists can expect to earn up to PLN 120 (EUR 29) per hour in the big cities.

As many couples opt for a shared massage or a visit to the spa on Valentine’s Day, massage therapists stand to earn up to PLN 240 (EUR 58) per hour, Personnel Service said.
