The case involves a reported provocation on the Polish-Belarusian border, where Belarusian authorities allegedly stopped a van carrying explosives.

It is suspected to be a covert operation by Belarusian intelligence, with both Belarusian and Russian propaganda accusing Polish services of deliberately allowing explosives to cross the border. The alleged explosives were said to be intended for a terrorist attack.

The situation has drawn the involvement of Tomasz Szmydt, a former judge who fled Poland for Belarus last year and is now wanted by Polish authorities for espionage.

According to Onet’s investigation, Szmydt attempted to gather information on the alleged smuggling of explosives across the border.

Sources reveal that Szmydt contacted the border guard, falsely posing as Witold Jurasz, a former diplomat and journalist from Onet. This suggests that Szmydt may have been collaborating with Belarusian intelligence prior to his escape from Poland.
