Piątek, who plays for German club Hertha Berlin, suffered the injury in the side’s 2-1 win over Schalke Gelsenkirchen in the Bundesliga on Wednesday.

Hertha said in a statement afterward that Piątek would miss their final two games of the season “after tests diagnosed a fractured ankle ...”

The injury may mean that Piątek will be left out of the Poland squad for the Euro 2020 tournament, officials have said.

Poland will in June face Slovakia, Spain and Sweden in the group stage of this year's European championships, a tournament rescheduled from last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Poland are scheduled to open their group-stage campaign with a fixture against Slovakia at Krestovsky Stadium in the Russian city of St. Petersburg on June 14.

The Poles will next take on Spain at Estadio La Cartuja in Sevilla on June 19 and then play Sweden in St. Petersburg four days later.

Ahead of the European tournament, Poland will play two friendlies on home turf at the start of next month, taking on Russia in Wrocław on June 1 and then Iceland in Poznań on June 8.
