Lewandowski's transfer to Barcelona brings together two players at the top of the statistics' league tables: Robert Lewandowski and his new manager, Xavi Hernadez.

Lewandowski (known in Poland as "Lefty" because his name starts with the Polish word for left) scored 348 goals for Bayern, second only to the legendary Gerd Mueller. Xavi Hernadez, the current Barcelona manager, played 767 matches for Barcelona a record only beaten by Messi with his 778 matches.

Lewandowski has said that it was Xavi's presence that clinched the deal for him (Reuters): "He [Xavi] knows exactly how to coach Barcelona because he was an amazing player and now he's also a very good coach. He has an amazing future and I want to be a part of this as well."

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has praised Lewandowski for his decision to join Barcelona despite his receiving more lucrative offers from other clubs (Onet Sport). He made it lear that Lewandowski is driven by other goals than just money.

Lewandowski's new teammates at Barcelona have also been expressing their satisfaction. Sergio Busquets, the 34-year-old midfielder, said that "World-class players have joined us now. Especially when it comes to attack."
