Athletics: Seven medals for Poland in Istanbul

Team Poland took home seven medals, four silver and three bronze, from the 2023 European Athletics Indoor Championships, which ended in Istanbul on Sunday.

On the last day of competition in Turkey, Poland's Piotr Lisek won silver in the men's pole vault, and countryman Jakub Szymański clinched another in the men's 60 metres hurdles.

Meanwhile, the Poliswomen’s 4x400 metres relay team of Anna Kiełbasińska, Marika Popowicz-Drapała, Alicja Wrona-Kutrzepa and Anna Pałys won a bronze medal on Sunday, after finishing third behind the Netherlands and Italy.

A day earlier, Poland’s Kiełbasińska took the bronze in the women’s 400 metres and countrywoman Sofia Ennaoui finished third in the women’s 1500 metres.

On Friday, Polish sprinter Ewa Swoboda won the silver in the women’s 60 metres and countrywoman Adrianna Sułek earned another silver for Poland in the women's pentathlon.

The 2023 European Athletics Indoor Championships were held in Istanbul from March 2 to 5.

The Polish track-and-field team finished 15th in the overall medals table.
