Teams from six countries are battling for honours in the South Korean city of Suwon.
The Polish team, ranked 20th in the world by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), is competing against Great Britain (ranked 23rd), Italy (17th), Kazakhstan (21st), South Korea (19th) and Slovenia (22nd).
Going for the gold
"We want to win the championship in South Korea," said Poland captain Karolina Późniewska.
"We are counting on support from our fans as we battle for victory," she added.
Późniewska also said that the Polish team was going into the championships in strong form after working hard at a training camp in the southern Polish city of Katowice.
The 2023 Ice Hockey World Championships Division I Group B run until April 23, according to the Polish Ice Hockey Federation (PZHL).
The Poles, coached by countryman Zbigniew Wróbel, finished second, behind China, at last year's championships on home ice in the southern Polish city of Katowice.
