While the African team is almost certain to qualify to the round of 16 now - with two games lost, the Poles are virtually out of the tournament. The young "Lions of Teranga" took control of the game from the start - being visibly faster and better built than Marcin Włodarski's boys.
The fate of the match was mostly decided within the starting half an hour. First, Idrissa Gueye scored a goal for Senegal in the 18th minute - and 12 minutes later Poland's Dominik Szala put one past his own goalkeeper to make it 0:2.
Soon after, a downpour with lightning overhead forced the referee to call a temporary halt to the match.
Almost an hour later, the game was finally resumed - but things still looked grim for Poland. Early in the second half Senegal's Gueye showed superb movement to make it 3-0, with a near carbon-copy of his first.
Poland was not giving up and hit back in the 66th thanks to Marcel Regula’s deflected effort. However, Gueye was unstoppable on the day - and he restored Senegal’s three-goal lead just three minutes later, with a powerful header that sealed his hat trick.
The Poles remain at the bottom of the table after their second straight defeat. Their chances to promote as a "lucky loser" from the 3rd place are strictly mathematical now - as they'd have to both score a very convincing win against Argentina in their final group stage game on Friday, and hope for the games in other groups to turn in their favour.
