The 2023/2024 FIS Snowboard World Cup begins on Thursday, with Poland among the host nations for the first time, the Polish Ski Association (PZN) said.

The Polish leg of the World Cup circuit is scheduled for the weekend of February 24 and 25, featuring men's and women's parallel giant slalom competitions in Krynica-Zdrój.

PZN head Adam Małysz told reporters that Poland had been selected as one of the host nations thanks to "the excellent performances of our snowboarders last season."

Oskar Kwiatkowski won a gold medal at the 2023 Snowboard World Championships in Georgia, while Aleksandra Król claimed the bronze, the PZN noted.

Małysz encouraged fans to come to the FIS World Cup events in Krynica, and to cheer on the Polish snowboarders as they take on international rivals.

"It promises to be an exceptional sporting event," he said.
