Hurkacz, who in January climbed one notch to a career-high world No. 8 in the latest ATP rankings won last year's edition of the tournament.
Saturday's match was the fourth between Hurkacz and Humbert, and the Pole's first defeat.
Humbert's final opponent will be Russian Karen Khachanov or Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov.
The 26-year-old Pole, coached by American Craig Boynton, last month reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open Grand Slam tournament, where he succumbed to Russia's Daniil Medvedev 6-7, 6-2, 3-6, 7-5, 4-6.
Serbia’s Novak Djokovic remains No. 1 in the ATP ranking, followed by Spain's Carlos Alcaraz and Medvedev.
