Tennis: Poland’s Linette makes last 16 in Charleston

Poland’s Magda Linette has advanced to the third round of the Charleston Open clay-court tournament in the United States, with a three-set win over Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine.

The 32-year-old Pole, ranked world No. 63 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), overcame the 32nd-ranked Ukrainian 0-6, 6-4, 6-3 in their second-round encounter in Charleston, South Carolina.

Linette will next play home favourite Jessica Pegula for a place in the quarterfinals.

In 2022, Linette reached the women’s singles quarterfinals and won the doubles title at the Charleston Open partnering with Slovenia's Andreja Klepač.
