Two companies have submitted bids to buy a majority stake in Górnik Zabrze, a historic football club owned by the city, municipal officials said on Monday. One bidder, LP Holding GmbH, is linked to former German international Lukas Podolski.

The offers from LP Holding and a consortium called Konsorcjum Zarys-Tabapol were received after an invitation to negotiate the sale. The municipality plans to sell all its shares except for one “golden” share and is reviewing the bids submitted along with a 10-year development plan detailing investment and financing strategies.

Originally, bids were due by November 4, but city president Agnieszka Rupniewska extended the deadline to January’s end at investors’ request. The privatization effort stalled in April 2024 when the previous council did not approve selling at least 51 percent of the club’s shares, previously valued at around 8 million euros.

City officials have mandated that any new owner must maintain the club’s name, headquarters, and allow the municipality to appoint one member to the supervisory board.

Górnik Zabrze, now 75 years old, currently sits in sixth place in the Ekstraklasa under coach Jan Urban.
