Gracjan Jarzyński led the charge, scoring five goals, while Patryk Pawlak, Jacek Kurowski and Eryk Bembenek each added one to secure Poland's emphatic win in their second group-stage match at the Indoor Hockey World Cup in Poreč, Croatia.

The morale-boosting victory came just a day after Poland suffered a 2-6 defeat to Austria in their tournament opener.

Poland will now face South Africa on Thursday in their final group-stage match. A win or draw will secure the team a spot in the quarterfinals, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Poland coach Dariusz Rachwalski told the media ahead of the World Cup that the Polish team, ranked ninth in the world, was setting its sights on the tournament's top honours.

"We want to reach the final," he declared at the time.

Indoor hockey, a fast-paced variation of traditional field hockey, requires quick thinking, precise execution and rapid decision-making, according to the International Hockey Federation (FIH).

Polish indoor hockey has enjoyed notable success in previous decades, with the national team finishing runner-up at the world championships three times and winning multiple medals at European championships.

Last year, Poland secured silver at the continental tournament.

The 2025 Indoor Hockey World Cup, held by the FIH, runs in Croatia until Sunday, featuring both men's and women's competitions.
