Tennis: Poland’s Piter wins doubles title in Mexico

Poland's Katarzyna Piter and her Egyptian doubles partner Mayar Sherif have won the Mérida Open tennis tournament in Mexico.

The Polish-Egyptian duo defeated Russia's Irina Khromacheva and Kazakhstan's Anna Danilina 7-6, 7-5 in the championship match.

The win marked Piter's fourth doubles title, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Meanwhile, Poland's Magda Linette crashed out in the second round of the women's singles at the Mérida Open, and countrywoman Magdalena Fręch was eliminated in the first round.

Poland's world No. 2 Iga Świątek is gearing up to defend her title at the upcoming Indian Wells tournament in the United States.

The 2025 Indian Wells opens in California on Wednesday and runs until March 16.
