Iga Świątek, defending her title in Indian Wells, advanced to the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 tournament with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Karolina Muchová, despite difficult weather conditions.
Earlier, she had easily defeated Caroline Garcia (6-2, 6-0) and Dayana Yastremska (6-2, 6-0).
Świątek advances to Indian Wells quarterfinals, addresses Musk's attack on FM Sikorski
After her win, Świątek addressed reporters, commenting on her performance and political matters, including her awareness of Elon Musk's recent attack on Polish Minister Radosław Sikorski.
In the quarterfinals, Świątek will face Chinese player Qinwen Zheng, against whom she previously lost in the semifinals at the Paris Olympics.
This will be their eighth meeting, with Świątek having won all but one of their encounters.
The match is expected to take place on Thursday, March 13, after 7 p.m. Polish time. Having won the tournament in both 2022 and 2024, Świątek has a strong chance of securing another title in this prestigious event.
