Tennis: Poland’s Linette through to last 16 at Miami Open

Poland’s Magda Linette has made it through to the last 16 of the Miami Open tennis tournament in the US state of Florida.

The 33-year-old Pole, ranked world No. 34 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), saw off Czech player Linda Fruhvirtová 7-5, 6-4 in the third round on Saturday.

Linette will now face home favourite Coco Gauff for a spot in the quarterfinals on Monday.

Meanwhile, Poland's world No. 2 Iga Świątek has reached the last 16, with a 7-6, 6-1 win over Belgium's Elise Mertens in the round of 32.

She will next play Ukrainian Elina Svitolina for a place in the last eight on Monday.

Poland's 27th-ranked Magdalena Fręch made an early exit from the Miami Open after losing 4-6, 4-6 to Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse in the second round.

The 2025 Miami Open runs until March 30.
