The Polish world No. 3 defeated the 2021 Wimbledon finalist 6-1, 6-3 in the second round of the women's singles as she seeks to defend her title at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament in London.

Świątek will next face Alexandra Eala of the Philippines for a place in the round of 16.

The 25-year-old is the last Polish woman remaining in the singles at the All England Club after Maja Chwalińska, Magdalena Fręch and Magda Linette were all eliminated in the first round.

Świątek claimed her first Wimbledon title last year with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over American Amanda Anisimova in the championship match.

No woman has successfully defended the Wimbledon singles title since Serena Williams in 2016.

Wimbledon, the only grass-court Grand Slam of the year, began on Monday and runs until July 12.

The women's final is scheduled for July 11.
