Tennis: Poland's Świątek moves into fourth round in Toronto

Poland’s world No. 8 Iga Świątek has moved into the fourth round of the women's singles at the Canadian Open tennis tournament in Toronto, with a 6-2, 6-1 win on Thursday over Switzerland's Viktorija Golubic.

The seventh-seeded Polish player will now face Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk for a place in the quarterfinals.

Świątek is the last Polish woman remaining in the tournament after Maja Chwalińska was knocked out in the second round on Tuesday, followed by Magda Linette and Magdalena Fręch on Wednesday.

Świątek last month was eliminated in the third round of Wimbledon by Alexandra Eala of the Philippines, failing to defend her title in London.

The Canadian Open is a combined women's and men's hard-court tournament held annually in Toronto and Montreal.
