The Polish goal machine found the back of the net in the 78th minute of the game, adding to his tally as the highest-scoring foreign player of all time in Germany’s Bundesliga top-flight football league.

Lewandowski has scored a total of 208 goals in the German premier league in just 293 appearances.

The Pole last week extended his contract with Bayern until 2023.

The 31-year-old Poland international has scored 198 goals in 247 games in all competitions for the German champions since joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2014.

“I am very happy to have been able to write a piece of history here at Bayern,” Lewandowski said at the signing of his new contract with the club on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, a former German international forward, said of Lewandowski: "In my opinion, he is the best central striker in the world.”

Lewandowski has scored six goals from three games in the Bundesliga this season and leads the table among the division’s top scorers.

The 31-year-old, who also captains Poland’s national squad, was in May crowned the top scorer of Germany's Bundesliga premier league in the 2018/2019 season, his fourth such trophy since he began playing in Germany in 2010.
