Poles lose opening match in EuroBasket 2021 qualifiers

Poland’s campaign to qualify for the EuroBasket 2021 basketball championships has gotten off to an unpromising start with a defeat to Israel.

Playing at home in the southern Polish city of Gliwice on Thursday, the Poles were beaten 71:75 (12:21, 27:16, 14:18, 18:20).

Poland next take on Spain. The game takes place on Sunday in the north-eastern Spanish city of Zaragoza.

The EuroBasket tournament takes place next September. Games in the group stage will be held in Germany, the Czech Republic, Georgia and Italy.

The knock-out phase will be played in the German capital, Berlin.
