Meanwhile, Poland's Hubert Hurkacz and Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime were eliminated from the men's doubles at the Australian Open after being stopped in the first round by Britain's Ken and Neal Skupski.
The Pole and the Canadian lost 3-6, 2-6.
Hurkacz earlier bowed out of the men's singles in Melbourne after losing to Sweden's Mikael Ymer 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 5-7, 3-6 in the first round.
Meanwhile, Poland’s French Open champion Iga Świątek has entered the third round of the women’s singles, where she will face off against French player Fiona Ferro in Melbourne on Friday.
