Bayern trounced Lazio 4-1 in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 match.

Lewandowski’s goal in the 9th minute marked the 72nd time the Polish star striker has scored in the Champions League across 94 matches.

The 32-year-old Pole is now the competition’s third-highest all-time scorer, with one goal more than Spain’s Raúl González.

Only Juventus’ Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, who has 134 goals to his name, and Barcelona’s Argentine great Lionel Messi, who is on 119, have scored more than Lewandowski in the competition.

The Poland captain in December won FIFA’s 2020 Best Men’s Player award, beating Ronaldo and Messi.

Lewandowski was also named Player of the Year at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai in late December.

The awards capped off a remarkable year for the Polish marksman, who scored 47 goals in 44 games for his club and country in 2020.

With 26 goals for Germany’s Bayern Munich, the Pole comfortably leads the race for the European Golden Shoe award for the top scorer of the 2020/2021 season.
