Four new government-sponsored scholarship programmes are in the pipeline for athletes under a draft budget adopted by the government this week, Piotr Gliński said.

"When these programmes kick in, we will be able to say that Polish sports have entered a new era,” Gliński, who doubles as minister for sports, said, as cited by the sportowefakty.wp.pl news website.

“The conditions for Polish sports are not bad, but we want them to be even better,” he added.

“And this is our task for the years ahead," he declared.

Poland’s government on Tuesday adopted a draft budget for 2022 that expects the economy to grow 4.6 percent, with inflation targeted at 3.3 percent.

The proposed budget ensures full financing for the government’s key social assistance projects, in addition to a hefty stream of cash on health and defence as well as sports, state news agency PAP reported.

“If the proposed budget is voted through by parliament, there will be a very significant increase in spending on sports," Gliński said.

He added that financing from the coffers of his Ministry of Culture, National Heritage and Sport alone will go up by PLN 135 million (around EUR 30 million, USD 35 million) next year.
