The Polish goal machine, who plays for German champions Bayern Munich, has been nominated for the annual award for the second time in a row alongside the likes of Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Argentina’s Lionel Messi.

The 33-year-old Pole is tipped to be among the frontrunners to pick up the coveted prize, which aims to select the best player in the world.

The winners will be announced at an online ceremony on January 17.

Lewandowski, who captains Poland’s national team, was last year named FIFA's world player of the year for 2020, beating Ronaldo and Messi.

The Polish marksman in September picked up the annual European Golden Shoe award for the highest scorer in European football.

The Poland international was in May crowned the top scorer of Germany's Bundesliga premier league for the 2020/2021 season, his sixth such trophy since he began playing in Germany in 2010.

Lewandowski was named Player of the Year at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai at the end of last year.

Earlier last year, he was named UEFA Player of the Year, a major European football honor adding to the long list of accolades for the Polish marksman.
