Maliszewska, who was one of Poland's Olympic medal hopes in China, on Wednesday failed to make her mark in the women’s 1500 metres after being eliminated in the heats.

She was earlier ruled out of the 500m event due to COVID-19 and failed to impress in the women's 1000 metres.

Ahead of the Games many named her among the country’s potential chances for Olympic glory in China.

Days before the Beijing 2022 Winter Games, Maliszewska tested positive for COVID-19 and spent a week in isolation.

Ski jumper Dawid Kubacki on February 6 grabbed the bronze in the men's normal hill individual event, winning Poland's first and so far only medal at the Beijing Olympics.

The Games run until Sunday.

Poland won two medals at the previous winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, finishing 20th in the medals table.

The country scooped six medals, four gold, one silver and one bronze, during the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, the best Olympic Winter Games tally for Poland ever.

Four years earlier in Vancouver, Canada, Poland also won six medals: one gold, three silver and two bronze.
