The 25-year-old Pole, ranked world No. 10 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), defeated Spaniard Albert Ramos-Viñolas, 6-7, 6-2, 7-6, in their third-round encounter on Thursday.
The Polish player will now take on Australia's Nick Kyrgios for a place in the last four.
Hurkacz in June won his fifth ATP singles title by beating world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev in the final of the Halle Open grass-court tennis tournament in Germany.
The hard-court tournament in Montreal runs until Sunday.
