US Open: Poland’s Świątek into 3rd round of women’s singles

Poland’s world No. 1 Iga Świątek has advanced to the third round of the women’s singles competition at the US Open Grand Slam tennis tournament in New York.

The 21-year-old Pole defeated home favourite Sloane Stephens 6-3, 6-2 in their second-round encounter at Flushing Meadows on Thursday.

Up next for the Polish tennis star at the last Grand Slam tournament of the year is another American Lauren Davis.

Meanwhile, Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz was set to take on Belarusian Ilya Ivashka for a place in the third round of the US Open men's singles later on Thursday.

The 2022 US Open runs until September 11.
