With the Kraków European Games just eight months away, the volunteer recruitment drive was officially launched at a news conference on Tuesday.

8,000 volunteers

Organisers are hoping to attract some 8,000 volunteers to help with the organisation of the 12-day event, reporters were told.

Candidates must be at least 16 years of age, speak English and be available for at least eight days during the Kraków European Games, according to officials.

They can be high-school or university students, working people or seniors, organisers said.

The volunteer package includes official European Games outfits, meals, insurance and accommodation for those outside the region, reporters were told.

'We hope to attract volunteers of all ages'

“The role of volunteers cannot be overestimated; we attach very high importance to this project as we strive to make everyone who comes to Kraków feel welcome,” said Marcin Nowak, CEO of the 2023 European Games Organising Committee.

Volunteers will be on hand to assist everyone, from athletes to reporters and fans, as well as coaches and referees, officials said.

“We hope to attract volunteers of all ages who will make people feel that they are taking part in an event shared by Poland and all of Europe,” the Organising Committee’s deputy CEO Janusz Kozioł told reporters.

2023 European Games

The 2023 European Games are set to take place between June 21 and July 2, 2023 in Kraków as well as other southern Polish cities: Krynica-Zdrój, Tarnów, Zakopane, Chorzów and Wrocław.

Athletes from all over Europe will compete in 25 sports, from archery to beach soccer to triathlon, organisers said.
