Basketball: Poland’s Sochan makes NBA debut

Polish basketball player Jeremy Sochan has made his official debut in America's prestigious NBA league, scoring four points for the San Antonio Spurs in a home game against the Charlotte Hornets.

Sochan, 19, on Wednesday became the fourth Polish player in history to feature in the American National Basketball League, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

The Polish forward made the starting line-up for legendary coach Gregg Popovich’s side, becoming the youngest-ever San Antonio Spurs player to appear in the starting five of an NBA season-opening game, the meczyki.pl website reported.

Four debut points for Sochan as Spurs lose to Hornets

Sochan played 27 minutes on his debut, notching four points, including an impressive slam dunk as well as seven rebounds, two assists and two turnovers, news outlets reported.

With Sochan on court, the Spurs scored only two points fewer than the Hornets, but overall they lost the game 102-129, the sportowefakty.wp.pl website reported. 

Sochan among Spurs’ young guns

This is the 50th NBA season for the Spurs, who are five-time NBA champions, and coach Popovich has assembled his youngest-ever team, with an average age of just 23.4 years, according to reports. 

Sochan and his teammates next face four games on the road, starting with a visit to the Indiana Pacers on Friday, sportowefakty.wp.pl reported, noting that the match begins at 1 a.m. on Saturday Polish time.
