The Netherlands’ Xandra Velzeboer won the event on Sunday, outracing Maliszewska in the final.

Maliszewska in November 2018 became the first Polish short-track speed skater to win a World Cup event.

In February 2019, she became the first Pole to win an overall World Cup title in the sport.

In January last year, Maliszewska took the silver in the women’s 500 metres at the 2021 European Short Track Speed Skating Championships on home ice in the northern Polish city of Gdańsk.

This year, Maliszewska was one of Poland's medal hopes at the Beijing winter Olympics. But she was ruled out of the 500m event in China in February due to COVID-19 and then failed to make her mark in the women's 1000 metres and 1500 metres after being eliminated in the heats.
