Tennis: Poland’s Linette enters 3rd round of Wimbledon

Poland’s Magda Linette has made it through to the third round of the Wimbledon tennis championships in London, with a hard-fought win over Barbora Strýcová of the Czech Republic.

The 31-year-old Pole defeated the 37-year-old Czech player 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 in the second round of the women's singles at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament in the British capital on Thursday.

Linette, who is ranked world No. 24 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), will next face Switzerland's 14th-ranked Belinda Bencic for a place in the last 16.

Meanwhile, Poland’s Iga Świątek has booked a spot in the third round of the women's singles at Wimbledon, with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Spain's Sara Sorribes Tormo on Wednesday.

Świątek will play Croatia's Petra Martić in the fourth round.

On the men's side, Poland’s world No. 18 Hubert Hurkacz beat Britain's Jan Choinski 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 on Thursday to advance to the third round of the iconic Grand Slam event.
