Athletics: Poland's Swoboda sets new world lead in women's 60m

Polish sprinter Ewa Swoboda has set a new world lead time of 7.01 seconds in the women’s 60 metres at a track-and-field meet on home soil.

Swoboda finished ahead of second-placed Zaynab Dosso of Italy and Jamaican Shashalee Forbes in third.

Meanwhile, Poland's Jakub Szymański won the men's 60m hurdles, with a time of 7.48 seconds, ahead of Italy's Lorenzo Simonelli, at the Orlen Copernicus Cup in the north-central Polish city of Toruń on Tuesday.

Countrywoman Pia Skrzyszowska finished runner-up in the women's 60 metres hurdles, clocking in at 7.81 seconds.

This string of strong performances by Polish track-and-field athletes comes in the countdown to the world indoor championships in Glasgow early next month.

The 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships will be held in Glasgow from March 1 to 3.
