Norwegian runner Jakob Ingebrigtsen shattered a long-standing world record in the men's 3000m, finishing with a remarkable time of 7:17.55.

He maintained an average pace of 58.34 seconds per 400m to beat the previous record of 7:20.67 set by Kenya's Daniel Komen in 1996.

Ingebrigtsen achieved an average speed of 24.7 kph, World Athletics, track-and-field's global governing body, said.

Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis also wowed the crowd, clearing 6.26 metres and adding 1 cm to his previous world record of 6.25m at the Paris Olympics earlier this month.

Sam Kendricks of the United States finished second in the men's pole vault, achieving a season's best of 6 metres, while Greece's Emmanouil Karalis placed third, clearing the same height and improving the national record by 7 cm.

Other highlights of the event included Botswana's sprinting sensation Letsile Tebogo, who claimed victory in the men's 200m with a meeting record of 19.83 seconds.

Canada's Marco Arop dominated the men's 800m, setting a meeting record of 1:41.86 and finishing over 1.5 seconds ahead of Olympic champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi of Kenya.

Serbia's Adriana Vilagoš won the women's javelin throw with a national record of 65.60m.

Poland's own Natalia Kaczmarek finished third in the women’s 400m with a time of 49.95 seconds, 1.29 seconds behind Dominican sprinter Marileidy Paulino, who set a meeting record of 48.66.

Poland's other podium finish came from Toyko 2020 Olympic champion Wojciech Nowicki, who placed third in the men's hammer throw.

In total, the event in Poland's southern Silesia region, which doubled as the 2024 Kamila Skolimowska Memorial Meet, saw 10 meeting records, two national records and two world records set in front of a crowd of more than 42,000, the organisers said.

The event honoured Polish hammer thrower Kamila Skolimowska, the Sydney 2000 Olympic gold medallist who died suddenly of a pulmonary embolism at the age 26 in 2009.

The next Diamond League meeting at Chorzów's Silesian Stadium is scheduled for August 9, 2025.
