Furtok was a standout player for GKS Katowice, becoming the club's all-time leading scorer with 122 goals in 299 matches.
During his career, he won the Polish Cup, a national silver medal, and a bronze medal with GKS Katowice. He also represented Poland in 36 matches, scoring 10 goals, including appearances at the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico.
After retiring from professional football, Furtok dedicated his time to the sport as a youth coach, sports director, head coach of GKS’s first team, and later as the club's president. His iconic number 9 jersey was officially retired in his honor.
In 2019, Furtok was recognized by the Polish Football Association (PZPN) as one of the top 100 players in the history of Polish football. Two years later, a mural commemorating his legacy was unveiled in Katowice.
Lukas Podolski, via social media, expressed condolences to Furtok’s family and the GKS Katowice community.
The Polish Football Association (PZPN) also conveyed deep sorrow and regret over Furtok’s passing.
