The athletes representing Poland are soldiers with experience in military missions in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kosovo. Among them is Senior Sergeant Major Dariusz Gaweł, who will carry the national flag.
This year’s event in Canada will be the first winter edition, where participants will compete in sports such as alpine skiing, biathlon, and curling.
“This extraordinary event is not only a celebration of sports but, above all, a symbol of the strength and courage of our veterans. I wish the entire team perseverance and positive energy throughout the competition. You are already winners in our eyes,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, during the farewell ceremony.
The Invictus Games are international sporting events for military veterans, founded by Prince Harry in 2014.
This year, the Winter Edition will take place in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada, from February 8-16, 2025.
