During the renovation, the capacity of the rooms was tripled to 500 seats, with two floors now available to readers.

During a ceremony in January to mark 275 years of the National Library, Poland’s President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki issued special messages to celebrate its new look.

The president voiced his gratitude and appreciation “of all the people and institutions which contributed to the overhaul" of the National Library.

“The National Library plays a hugely important role in cultivating the heritage and identity of our community, and in the dissemination of knowledge,” Duda said in his message at the time.

Morawiecki, meanwhile, said he hoped that “great ideas will be born" in the new reading rooms.

The library is among the oldest cultural institutions in the country. It was one of the biggest European libraries in 18th century.
