Olga Tokarczuk, the Polish Nobel laureate, received an honorary doctorate on Wednesday from the University of Wrocław. During her acceptance speech, she paid tribute to the courage of the Ukrainian people, saying that in the din of the war "words become inaudible"
"Too often now I find I lack the words to describe what I am experiencing," she said.
"I read reports, syntheses and analyses, interviews and expert forecasts, I grasp at the words of others to understand this irrational eruption of death in Ukraine, attacked by Russia, and, as I writer, I surrender. I cannot put words to what is happening, because I cannot understand what is happening."
"We must not forget how bravely and heroically the Ukrainian people are defending themselves against the inhumane actions of the Russian army," Tokarczuk continued.
In 2019, Olga Tokarczuk was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.
