The four-day festival kicks off with performances by the Devon Lamarr Organ Trio, a soul-jazz band from Seattle, the “energetic” quartet of trumpeter Theo Crocker, and the “visionary of percussion” Makaya McCraven with his band, all in Warsaw’s Stodoła club, festival director Mariusz Adamiak announced.
"Friday evening will begin with Canadian pianist Kris Davis, followed by our good friends, artists already well known to festival audiences, namely the saxophonist James Brandon Lewis and the double bassist Christian McBride, each with a band," Adamiak said.
Saturday concerts will feature the legendary jazz bassist Stanley Clarke with his band, a performance by the British band Ill Considered, as well as Poland’s Artur Małecki & The Creature, winner of the Fryderyk Award in the New Face of Phonography category.
Sunday, the last day of the festival, will culminate with performances by vocalist Cécile McLorin and the Ziółek Quartet, another Fryderyk Award winner.
The last day of the festival will also feature a concert by American musician Steve Coleman. Born in Chicago on September 20, 1956, the saxophonist, composer and leader of the group Five Elements is one of the most daring avant-garde musicians with a strong influence on contemporary jazz.
The Warsaw Summer Jazz Days festival has welcomed a long list of jazz giants over the years, including the likes of Pharoah Sanders, Herbie Hancock, John McLaughlin, John Zorn and Joe Zawinul.
