Entitled Warstwy (Layers), the show is the fruit of the artist’s journey through Ukraine earlier this year.
Between March and July, Dobrucki visited the cities of Kyiv, Odesa, Lviv, Borodyanka, Vinnytsia and Ivano-Frankivsk.
The photos on display document scenes of war and destruction, including cultural monuments covered with bags of sand, timber boards, foil, textiles and metal sheets as a means of protection from damage.
Some of these monuments have drawings or written descriptions attached to them.
“What sort of impact does such covered monuments have on the residents? How do they determine the identity of the city environment?" These are some of the questions asked by Dobrucki in his notes to the exhibition.
Born in 1991, Dobrucki is a philosophy graduate from the University of Warsaw. After spending many years in Iceland, he has been based in Warsaw since 2020.
He is currently studying photography at the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts in Poznań, western Poland. His main interest is documentary photography.
The Layers exhibition runs until November 27.
