Composer of the Royal Castle anthem passes away

On August 24, 2024, Professor Zbigniew Bagiński, the composer of the Royal Castle anthem, died in Warsaw. His composition has been performed daily from the Clock Tower since 1995. The Polish Composers' Union confirmed the news of his death.

Prof. Bagiński was 75 years old. His anthem has been played every day at 11:15 AM in Warsaw since 1995, marking the time when the clock stopped on September 17, 1939, during the fire of the bombed Royal Castle.

Professor Bagiński was a member of the Polish Composers' Union from 1973, serving as General Secretary from 1989 to 1999 and as President of the Warsaw Branch from 2001 to 2011.

He spent many years teaching at The Chopin University of Music in Poland and also led courses in music history and theory at the Aleksander Zelwerowicz National Academy of Dramatic Art in Warsaw.

Prof. Bagiński received numerous awards in composition competitions. His works were performed at concerts and festivals both domestically and internationally.

He was honored with the Silver Cross of Merit and the Silver Medal "For Merit to Culture - Gloria Artis," and in 2006, he received the annual award from the Polish Composers' Union.
