“August 28th is not a random date. It’s the birthday of Jack Kirby, who created iconic Marvel characters like Hulk and Iron Man. Various events take place worldwide and in Poland every year,” said Szymon Holcman from Kultura Gniewu Publishing House in an interview with Polish state news agency PAP.

According to Holcman, such events help promote comics as an important part of culture and entertainment, with future editions likely to further develop this passion among a growing audience.

While outdoor events like this are common in Poland, elsewhere, comic book fans often gather in libraries or bookstores on this day.

World Comic Book Day is an annual global event aimed at celebrating comics as a significant form of art and literature through various activities, creator meet-and-greets, and special comic book releases to encourage reading and appreciation.

Organizers of the event invite attendees to bring a blanket and their favorite comic, and announce the availability of rare titles from their collection that may interest collectors and new readers alike.
