The award ceremony took place at the ministry's headquarters and was presented by Minister Hanna Wróblewska.
The 82-year-old artist, originally from Łomża in northeastern Poland, studied under Professors Juliusz Studnicki and Jan Cybis at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.
Early in his career, Dobkowski developed a unique artistic style reflecting the mental and cultural revolution of the 1960s, known as counterculture.
His art aimed to help overcome the alienation of civilization and liberate from oppressive culture, characterized by playful lines, dynamic forms, and vivid colors.
Dobkowski's works are held in prestigious collections, including the Museum of Art in Łódź, the National Museum in Warsaw, and the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards, including a gold medal and prize at the Złote Grono symposium and the Cyprian Norwid Award for the best exhibition of the year.
In 2012, he was honored with the Gloria Artis Silver Medal, and now he has received the Gold statuette in the same category.
