The guitar, which he played during the Polish leg of his DreamBox/MoonDial European tour, will raise funds for the NGO Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH) to aid those affected by recent floods in southern Poland, the interia.pl news website has reported.
Music manager Joanna Drozda, the organiser of Metheny's tour in Poland and the campaign's initiator, said: "The international music community cannot remain indifferent to the tragedy affecting so many Poles. Our sensitivity compels us not to overlook human suffering."
She added, as cited by the Polish website: "We will donate all proceeds from the sale of this unique guitar, along with limited-edition merchandise ... to the PAH account. I firmly believe that music has the power to unite people in challenging times and provide real assistance."
Drozda also said that Metheny would perform in Poland this autumn alongside other international stars, including Branford Marsalis, Nancy Vieira and Alfredo Rodriguez, as part of the "Siesta on the Road" concert tour, interia.pl reported.
The "Ibanez PM3" guitar, designed in collaboration with Metheny, bears the name of the acclaimed musician, who is among the world’s most popular jazz guitarists and a 20-time Grammy Award winner.
The auction is hosted on the Allegro Charytatywni platform and runs until October 27.
