The Urban Land Institute, the oldest and largest network of cross-disciplinary real estate and land-use experts globally, describes the museum as a facility that "combines educational, exhibition, and social functions to create a place not only for presenting history but also for fostering a deeper understanding of it."
Opened in 2023, the Polish History Museum houses diverse spaces, including permanent and temporary exhibition halls, a 600-seat concert hall, a cinema, a theatre, a library and conference rooms.
Designed by the Warsaw-based WXCA Architectural Studio, the museum’s architecture aims to blend historical reverence with modern intrigue.
WXCA partner Marta Sękulska-Wrońska shared that "the project posed a special challenge for us - we tried to make the building universally refer to history, but also make it intriguing, inviting people to discover the history."
She added: "We are delighted that our work and the museum's mission have been recognised on a global level. This award is proof that architecture can not only reflect the past, but also shape the future."
The six other Global Awards for Excellence winners include projects in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, China, and Belgium.
