He will also perform in seven January shows of the opera, including a global Live in HD broadcast to cinemas and theaters on January 25.
Since his debut as the Duke in Verdi’s Rigoletto in 2006, Beczała has been a regular guest at the Metropolitan Opera. His roles have included the Prince in Dvořák’s Rusalka, Edgardo in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, Count Loris in Umberto Giordano’s Fedora, Rodolfo in Puccini’s La Bohème, as well as the title roles in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette and Faust.
Beczała, who turned 58 on December 28, also excels in the song repertoire. Earlier this month, he gave a recital at Carnegie Hall featuring a selection of songs by Rachmaninoff, Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Grieg, and the Polish composer Mieczysław Karłowicz.
