The artwork, titled Elimar, is believed to be the Dutch painter’s final creation and could be worth up to $15 million if confirmed authentic.

Experts claim it’s Van Gogh’s final work

LMI researchers concluded that Elimar was painted in 1889 during van Gogh’s stay at a psychiatric institution in France—the same period in which the artist produced masterpieces such as The Starry Night.

The authenticity claim hinges on several findings: handwriting analysis of the word “Elimar” in the corner of the canvas, materials consistent with other van Gogh paintings, and DNA tests on red hairs discovered on the artwork, which the report says match the artist’s own.

Potential $15 million price tag

The report also cites stylistic elements aligning with van Gogh’s late-period work. Van Gogh, who died in 1890, is known for his distinctive brushstrokes and bold color choices.

While LMI spent four years and more than $30,000 on the study, its conclusions have yet to be endorsed by the Van Gogh Museum in the Netherlands. Experts there have not previously authenticated Elimar.
