Timed to mark the centennial of the Foundation’s activities, the show pays tribute to Poland’s storied artistic past while introducing a new cohort of creative talents.

Contemporary takes on a timeless tradition

The exhibition’s diverse range of styles reflects realism’s longstanding technical prowess and emotional breadth within Polish art. Placed alongside masterpieces from the Kosciuszko Foundation’s permanent collection—featuring 19th-century Polish luminaries—these new works underscore the continued evolution and relevance of realist painting.

The Real Within explores how modern artists expand the emotional and mystical boundaries of figurative realism, refining age-old techniques to produce portraits, landscapes, and still lifes that transcend mere photorealism or surrealism, the organizers have said.

Featured artists and the Lunar Codex

Among the eight featured artists, Daria Solar probes symbolic human-machine relationships in her neo-human figures, exploring modern scientific challenges and triumphs. In a nod to its forward-looking vision, the entire group’s artwork has been included in The Lunar Codex, a NASA Artemis program initiative launching contemporary art, literature, poetry, music, and film to the Moon.
