Born in 2000, Alexewicz is a graduate of the Academy of Music in Wrocław, south-western Poland. He is currently honing his skills at the Zurich University of the Arts (Hochschule der Künste Zürich) in Switzerland. Last year, he won the Concerto Competition at the PianoTexas Festival, performing Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to performing at leading Polish music institutions, he has appeared in Berlin, Brasília, São Paulo, Tokyo, Osaka, and Sapporo.
In 2021, he received the “Young Promoter of Poland” award from Poland’s First Lady, Agata Kornhauser-Duda, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the promotion of Polish culture.
Alexewicz is quoted on the Van Cliburn Competition website as saying:
I want to use my talents not only to preserve the rich heritage of classical music but also to foster a sense of belonging and joy around it. My goal is to make classical music a living, breathing art form that connects with people across boundaries, bringing them together in a shared cultural experience. Music may not be able to change the world, but if it can bring a smile to someone’s face, inspire reflection, and remind people of life’s true values, then I believe I’ve done my job well.
Founded in 1962, the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition is regarded as one of the world’s most prestigious musical contests. It is named in honor of the American pianist Van Cliburn (1934–2013), winner of the first Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1958.
